Finally, long at last, we got our first Mercedes-Benz!
Well, ok, in the interest of full disclosure, our brand new baby Benz is buried under a hulking Winnebago View RV cabin. And while it may be relegated to a lowly Beast of Burden role, it IS a Benz, and we are oh so happy it’s taking us along on our rides.
Powered by a 3.0 liter 6-cylinder, 188-hp turbo-diesel engine, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis forms the strong and steady core of our go-anywhere Winnebago View.
It may not be as sleek as an S-Class, as luxurious as a Maybach, or as fast and furious as a GT Roadster, but it does sleep 5 adults, has a dry bath (toilet and separate shower), kitchen and bathroom sinks, a microwave-convection oven, a three-burner stove, a settee table, a propane generator, two TVs, two stereos, a massive awning, a fridge and freezer, air conditioning and heater, super cool LED lighting, and tons and tons of storage.
All of this, amazingly enough, rides comfortably on the back of our mighty Mercedes chassis, while averaging an impressive `15-16 mpg for highway trips.
So, while the whole package may be called a Winnebago View, I’m giving credit where credit is due and am very happy that our first Mercedes-Benz is the propulsion and pillar of the package, and carrying us along for the ride.
